GRANTMAKING » UNFPA’s Campaign to End Fistula
In 2003 the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) launched the Campaign to End Fistula, a global effort with activities in more than 40 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and the Arab States. The Campaign works in three key areas: preventing fistula, treating fistula and assisting women whose fistulas have been repaired in returning to their communities. In each of its project countries, the Campaign assesses needs, plans interventions and then implements national strategies. One By One has chosen the Campaign as a grantee because their reach is broader than any other organization working to treat and prevent fistula. The Campaign has helped to bring fistula to the attention of a wide audience, including policymakers, health officials and affected communities. One By One has an excellent working partnership with the Campaign and our annual grant to them is an important expression of support for their work to treat and prevent fistula worldwide.

- Support was received by 89 health facilities in 19 countries to strengthen capacity to provide treatment services
- Training was provided for more than 500 professionals in fistula management – involving over 130 doctors, 170 nurses and midwives, and more than 200 social workers and paramedical staff.
2007 Grants to the Campaign to End Fistula
$125,252 granted through our former fiscal sponsor the UN Foundation + $5,000 in direct cash from One By One
As a proud volunteer initiative, we were thrilled to be fiscally sponsored by the UN Foundation as we worked to raise money for the Campaign to End Fistula’s work in what were then just 28 countries around the world. They have grown significantly and we are happy to be part of that story of success for women worldwide.
