Ultrasound in Tanzania

PHILIPS ultrasound machine in use in Tanzania

We have a long and fruitful partnership with Philips Healthcare.  Philips was a vital partner of our Ultrasound Study in Tanzania, a joint clinical investigation aimed at preventing fistula through diagnostic imaging.  Philips has also been a consistent supporter of our work – providing ultrasound equipment and ongoing funding in support of our mission to end fistula.  We are truly thankful to be partners with such an innovative company and a world leader in healthcare and new technologies.

In 2003, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and its partners launched the first-ever global Campaign to End Fistula.

The Campaign works to prevent fistula from occurring, treat women who are affected, and renew the hopes and dreams of those who suffer from the condition. This includes bringing obstetric fistula to the attention of policy-makers and communities around the world, thereby reducing the stigma associated with fistula, and helping women who have undergone treatment return to full and productive lives. The Campaign currently covers more than 30 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and some Arab States.

One By One believes in the long-term sustainable approach of the Campaign to end fistula and in their broad distribution of funds and technical assistance. For this reason, One By One selected the Campaign to End Fistula as its initial grantee in 2005 and 2006. The Campaign provides One By One with technical assistance and information about fistula treatment and prevention programs around the world.
